It’s still officially summer for another 2 weeks but the coming of Labor Day means the unofficial end of summer and beginning of fall.

And I’m so excited for fall that I’m getting a jump start on things!

Don’t get me wrong – I love summer!  It’s my favorite season, in fact. I love the hot weather (I’m a Texas girl at heart), the fun, the vacations.  I love it all so much I got married in the summer.  But there’s just something magical about the fall – the colors, the crisp, cool air, going to football games and for walks in the park with leaves crinkling under your feet, wearing light jackets and fun sweaters.

And after the debauchery of summer, fall is a good time to get back to business.  Like all the kids going back to school, or in Washington, DC where I live, the Congress coming back to session after their August break.

Autumn is an awesome time for renewal of body and spirit, so it’s a great time to set intentions around our health and fertility.  Intentions help us focus the mind to reduce anxiety – we can all use some of that!  

I felt so anxious on my journey – I’d ask myself, am I doing enough to make it happen?  Am I doing the right things?  What else should I do?  Why did I wait until I’m over 40 to do this?  I also told myself some mean things about myself – you’re a failure, a loser, you’re broken, of course you’re going to be the one who has fertility problems. Nothing ever works out for you, so why would you think this would work out.

It wasn’t until I had a cancelled IUI cycle when I really tuned in to the things I was saying in my mind and I knew I had to give myself better messages.  You can read more about this process of discovery here.

Setting an intention helped me begin to let go of the anxieties, retrain my subconscious mind and focus on what I really wanted – to get pregnant and become a mother.  As I did this I began to feel more at peace with the entire process – a surrender.

Surrendering to the process is not the same as giving up, or just waiting and seeing what happens.  True surrender means acting mindfully, purposefully, and with intention – all while having faith that things will unfold just as they are meant to, and at exactly the right time.  I reached a point where I knew with every fiber of my being that I would have a baby.

Don’t get me wrong – it was not easy, especially in the beginning.  But this is a practice, and as with any practice, you must practice, every day.  And as you practice, you’ll see how your heart opens.  The practice can lead to so many places – for me it was meditation which incorporated visualization and affirmations.  And as time goes on and you keep practicing, it does get easier, and that faith and surrender will come, I promise.

You can follow your own practice wherever it leads you but it all starts with the intention.  The Universe needs to know what you want.

 

Set this intention for your fertility:

I accept where I am at this point in my journey.  Even so, I can change the course of my journey – I have the power to make the right changes to help me live my best life and become my most fertile self.  I’m ready to step into this power.  I will be a mother.

 

You can wordsmith it however you’d like if you want to make the words your own, or you can use this intention verbatim – you get the idea. Once you’ve got the words, really own your intention.  You can:

  • Write it down.
  • Say it out loud to yourself in a mirror.
  • Carry it around on a card inside your purse.
  • Stick it on your bathroom mirror or by your front door so you always see the words in your home
  • Record yourself saying it and repeat the recording over and over as you fall asleep at night.  You want it to become part of your subconscious.
  • Repeat it to yourself during meditation, like a mantra.
  • Take any other actions you can think of you use your intention to reprogram your thoughts, and your subconscious mind.

In general, the steps to creating an intention are to:

  • State your desire
  • Put it out to the universe
  • Have it become part of your subconscious.

This will redirect your focus from a place of anxiety and worry, to a place of ease, comfort, peace and complete control over your own journey.  It will also help you identify and take the actions that are most appropriate for you to thrive on your journey.

While the autumn won’t actually be here for another 2 weeks, start thinking about your fall intention now!
